How clients access their Vault

Learn how to assist your clients with accessing their Vault

Updated yesterday

Your client accesses their secure Vault using a unique URL. They can save this URL as a bookmark on their mobile device.

You can send your client the video link and PDF below to show how easy the Vault is to use.

Generate the unique Vault URL

A unique URL is created when you process the first document in ATO SmartDocs to your client’s email address, or when you archive the first document in your client’s Vault.

The URL is automatically emailed to your client when you process a document via ATO SmartDocs.

You can also email the unique URL manually:

  1. Select the Vault menu, then click the Archive Documents tab.

  2. Search for the client via their name or email address.

  3. Click the ATO SmartDocs Vault icon beside your client’s email address

  4. When the window appears, click Send email or copy the link and paste it into your own email message.

Support your client with their first login

Once your client has their unique URL, they can open their Vault to view their documents. On first access, your client sees a three‑step login screen.

  1. Your client views the last three digits of their mobile number and clicks Get access code to receive a code via SMS.

  2. Your client enters the SMS access code into the field provided.

  3. Your client clicks Submit access code to access the ATO SmartDocs Vault.

Note: After logging in, your client can switch to an authenticator app for 2FA instead of SMS.

You can send the document below to your clients, which outlines the steps for accessing the Vault.

Enable 2FA via authenticator app

  1. In the client Vault screen, your client clicks the Try here text to display the QR code.

  2. They scan the QR code using a third‑party authenticator app.

  3. They enter the 6‑digit code generated in the authenticator app and click Submit.

  4. They close the webpage and reopen their unique Vault link. On their next login, the 2FA method defaults to the authenticator app. They may switch back to SMS from the login screen at any time.
