Downloading documents from the ATO Portal’s Client Communication List depends on how your browser handles PDFs. Some browsers allow you to automatically download PDF files instead of opening them. This article explains how to adjust the settings in Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer.
Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer do not allow PDFs to automatically download, but you can still save the document after it opens.
Automatically download PDFs in Chrome
Open Google Chrome.
At the top right, click More (the ⋮ icon for Customise and control Google Chrome) > Settings.
On the left menu, click Advanced, then click Privacy and security.
Under Privacy and security, click Site settings.
Scroll to the bottom and click PDF documents.
Turn on Download PDF files instead of automatically opening them in Chrome.
Automatically download PDFs in Mozilla Firefox
Open Mozilla Firefox.
At the top right, click the ≡ icon to customise and control Firefox.
Select Settings from the dropdown menu.
On the left menu, click General, then scroll to Applications.
Under Applications, find the PDF option and click the associated dropdown icon.
Select Save File so Firefox automatically downloads PDF files.
Download PDFs in Microsoft Edge
Microsoft Edge cannot be configured to automatically download PDFs. However, you can save the PDF after it opens.
Click the PDF to open it in Edge.
At the top right, click the Save icon.
Download PDFs in Internet Explorer
Internet Explorer also cannot auto‑download PDFs, but it allows you to save the file after it opens.
Click the PDF.
At the bottom of the screen, click the Save button.
