ACMA SMS Sender ID Register

Learn about mandatory requirements for organisations to prevent scams

The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) is introducing a mandatory SMS Sender ID Register to prevent scams. From 1 July 2026, all organisations using alphanumeric Sender IDs (e.g. business names instead of phone numbers) must register them.

Impact

  • Unregistered Sender IDs will appear as“Unverified” in messages

  • This may reduce customer trust and engagement

  • Applies only to alphanumeric IDs (not phone numbers)

How this affects your organisation

  • You cannot register directly with ACMA

  • Your provider (Intelli Messaging) will submit registrations on your behalf

  • You must provide required details and complete ACMA Assist validation steps

What you need to do

  • Identify all Sender IDs used across your organisation

  • Gather brand ownership evidence (ABN, business names, trademarks, etc.)

  • Provide details to Intelli Messaging, an email to register the Sender ID's would have been sent to your practice.

  • Ensure key contacts are ready for ACMA Assist validation

To check if this applies to your practice, please reach out to Intelli Messaging and review the content on the ACMA website below:
